Surrey First Team Continue Form In Friendlies

Our second warm-up game of the 2022 season at Walton Heath was a success with the county prevailing over our hosts by 7 1/2 points to 4 1/2.

Cold but playable conditions greeted the teams and Walton made a fast start with Kris Kim and Oscar Lent winning over the usually reliable first-team pairing of Ben Palmer and Jacob Aaholm by 6&4. Both Oscar and Kris are involved not just with Surrey teams but are also in the England squads and are great prospects for the future. The remaining foursomes matches all went to the county with Harry Uzzell and Alex Tonge winning 4&2 over Will Blockley and Calum Malcolm, David Primrose and Will Dugdale by 2&1 over Mark Justice and Phil Lewin and Terry Nichols and Jack Kurzberg by one hole over Monty Holcombe and Harry Bush. This was sufficient to give the county a 3-1 lead going into the fine Walton lunch.

The first four singles matches of the afternoon were split equally: Harry Uzzell (2&1) and Will Dugdale (3&2) winning for the county and Kris Kim (1 up)and Oscar Lent (2&1) for Walton Heath. The Kris Kim vs. Ben Palmer match was the closest and saw young Kris triumph at the last against consistent first-team points scorer Palmer. The county's tail wagged just a little stronger with David Primrose (3&2) and Alex Tonge (1 up) winning and Jacob Aaholm halving in a close-fought match with Walton captain Mark Justice.

It is an honour and a pleasure to represent Surrey, especially against such welcoming opponents and over the fine courses at Walton Heath. A solid win here against a strong team bodes well for the rest of the season.
