Surrey U14's Steal Victory Against Hertfordshire

It was a beautiful sunny day on Saturday as the U14s team travelled to Knebworth near Stevenage in Hertfordshire to play Hertfordshire in a 12 a side, singles match play event.

The format was match play singles played in a four-ball group, with 3 points up for grabs in each match: 1 point for the front 9, 1 point for the back 9 and a point for the overall win.

After their warmup and team talk and ensuring the boys had plenty of water and sun cream, the match was finally underway.

A beautiful and challenging golf course with hard greens made this match a real challenge for all the players. The matches were very close with a few going down the 18th hole. However, Surrey was very strong in the last matches with Bailey Hall and Joshua Thompson taking all 3 points in their matches to ensure the win.  The final scores were Surrey 20½ points, Hertfordshire  15½ points.  Good win for the Surrey boys!

Back to the clubhouse for a roast chicken dinner and a chocolate brownie and ice cream dessert. A big thanks to the staff at Knebworth GC, Graham Oram the Hertfordshire U14s manager for his friendly hospitality and of course all the parents who made the long journey to get the boys to Knebworth.
