Surrey A Team start their season with a match versus Farnham

This year the county have invested heavily in the A team, holding coaching and selection meetings throughout the winter months.

The match format was to be 36 holes, 8 a-side with foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon. Farnham fielded an impressive line-up of quality players and Surrey knew this would be a tough match to win and brought an equally high-quality line-up of players from their squad meaning that although on paper, the county had the marginally better side, home knowledge would be crucial. Despite the rain and wind, the course was in good condition and a credit to the greens staff.

The morning foursomes finished all square at 2 points each. Following lunch the sun finally made an appearance as the players headed out for the afternoon singles, all the matches were being played to an extremely high standard but as the afternoon games finished neither side had managed to gain a significant advantage and the result was in the balance until the final match which just went in favour of Surrey and a narrow victory by Surrey 7-5, the match was enjoyed by all and played in great spirit. A huge thanks to Farnham, members, players and all its staff for hosting the game. Surrey A now move on to their next fixture at The Addington on Sunday 24th March.
