Purpose and Aim
The U15/U16 age group consists of two squads, the U16 League Squad and the U16 Development Squad. The League Squad is aimed at boys aged 14 & 15 with a handicap index of 4.0 or below and the Development Squad is 10.0 and below. However, these handicap index limits are for guidance only, with other selection criteria also being taken into account, such as away competition scores, events competed in, potential and attitude.
Training
The training sessions run throughout the year between March and September, and are led by two coaches, Greg Brodie supported by Lee Mackie.
A practice round for the U15/16 County Championships forms one of these training sessions where possible.
Matches
The U16s have five matches during the year, with the potential for a sixth, if the team is successful in the league matches. Three of the five matches are England Golf Southeast Group league matches against two other counties. There is one home match and two away matches, and they take the form of triple match play, contested by 8 players from each county. The county that wins the league advances to a final match later in the year.
The fourth U16 match is a friendly match played against Hertfordshire. The format is singles match play consisting of 20 players (10 from each County).
The fifth match is the annual MUGS match which is contested between BB&O and Surrey, alternating between home and away. The match consists of foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon, with eight players from each county.
The U15s have one match during the season, which is a Triangular Shield match againt Hampshire & Sussex, consisting of eight players from each county. U15 players may also be considered for the U16 matches.
