The 2024 Surrey Amateur Masters was played over the New Course at Walton Heath Golf Club on Sunday 20th October. The field was made up of the leading players in the Surrey Order of Merit, as well as the winners of the various Surrey Championships throughout the year. The event also acts as the last event on the Order of Merit and determines the final standings.
Surrey Chairman Terry Casey acted as starter on the 1st tee, with referees Norman Jack, Bruce Wright, and Jo Maddams out on the course in case any rulings were required.
The weather made for incredibly difficult scoring conditions, with heavy rain lasting for the entire day and winds gusting up to 40mph! Despite this, the golf course was in very good condition, with many players commenting on just how nice the greens were, especially given all the rain that had come down in recent weeks.
In the Surrey Masters, Alastair Kinnaird took home the trophy with a level par score of 72, a fantastic score in the conditions!
In the Order of Merit, despite not being able to make it on the day, Will Dugdale had already accumulated enough points to be crowned the Men’s Order of Merit winner for 2024. Alastair Kinnaird’s win in the Surrey Masters gave him enough points to secure second place, while Jack Sutherland finished third for the second year in a row. The final results of the Surrey Masters and Order of Merit were as follows:
Surrey Masters:
1st: Alastair Kinnaird – 72 (level)
2nd: Jacob Aaholm – 74 (+2)
3rd: Kristian Taylor – 76 (+4)
Surrey Order of Merit:
1st: Will Dugdale – 103 points
2nd: Alastair Kinnaird – 98 points
3rd: Jack Sutherland – 68 points
Thank you to Terry Casey for doing the starting, as well as Norman, Bruce, and Jo for giving up their Sunday to do the refereeing for us.
A massive thank you also to Walton Heath Golf Club for hosting the event, and to all their staff for looking after us so well.
