The John Ling Salver (Seniors) Rules

9. Seniors’ Club Team Knockout & Salver (The John Ling Trophy)

The Competition shall be open to all affiliated Clubs who play on a course with a minimum SSS score of 64. Each team shall comprise of ten players who have reached their 55th birthday on the day of the match. Players may be changed from round to round, but no player may play for more than one Club in a calendar year. Five pairs from each Club shall play fourball betterball matchplay off handicap over 18 holes.

All players must have a WHS approved handicap index on the day of the event.

Home Clubs are reminded that it is normal etiquette to allow the members of the Away Team to play a practice round at a rate equal to or less than the members’ introduced guest rate. Each away player will receive 2 extra shots to be added to their Course Handicap. The playing handicap for each player is then calculated at 90% of their Course handicap with the additional shots and the difference is then taken from the player with the lowest playing handicap.

Individual games that are all square after 18 holes will play sudden death to determine a result. The winning Club are to email the County office as soon as possible after the match. Players will play off their WHS handicap index subject to a limit of 24. A competitor over 24 handicap index may play but must play off a handicap index of 24 in the event. The Draw will indicate the “Home” Team. It will be the responsibility of both teams to arrange a suitable date for the event. Failure to do so will result in the disqualification of both teams.

All matches will be played MID-WEEK. All matches are to be played by the date specified in the Draw Sheet. No extensions will be granted.

Matches should be played from the YELLOW tees. All losing qualifiers and losing first round teams will automatically be entered into the Salver competition.

The 2 Finals will be played over the Courses of the previous year’s Champions.

Players are not allowed to use buggies except under Rule 17. Also see Rules 18 & 19

Quarter Final Top Team is Home - To be played by 15th August
Semi Final Bottom Team is Home (please note: the semi finals are to be played at a neutral venue so semi finalists are requested to swap venues i.e. top semi finalists to swap venue with bottom semi finalists) - To be played by 26th September
