The knockouts will be open to all players who are an affiliated member of a Surrey Golf Club.
All matches should be played over a course set up as if for a qualifying competition, off the Club's medal tees of the day.
All Surrey Knockouts will be played under the rules of the R&A and local rules as per the hosting clubs, unless otherwise advised.
All matches must be played to a conclusion until the overall competition result is decided.
A player may represent their club in as many of the knockouts as required, but they may not represent more than one team in the same knockout (they cannot represent their club's A&B teams in the same knockout, and they cannot play for more than one club in the same knockout).
Home clubs/players are reminded that is it the rules of the competition to allow the players of the away team to play a practice round at a rate equal to or less than the members' introduced guest rate prior to the match date.
The home team/player is expected to offer at least three dates to their opponents to play the match, two at weekends and one mid-week . These dates must be offered in a timely manner, if none of these dates are acceptable to the visitors and no other mutually acceptable date is agreed, then both teams will be disqualified. We suggest that matches are played sooner rather than later. The Competition Committee's decision is final.
WHILST IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HOME TEAM TO OFFER DATES, IT IS EXPECTED THAT ALL TEAMS/PLAYERS WILL MUTUALLY AGREE TO PLAY THEIR MATCHES BEFORE THE COMPLETION DATE OF EACH ROUND.
No extensions will be given.
Each Club will be represented by one or two teams of five players, consisting of two players with a handicap index of between 5.0 and 12.0 inclusive, and three players with a handicap index of between 12.1 and 18.0 inclusive. A player with a handicap index over 12.0 may play in the 5.0 to 12.0 category but must play off a handicap index of 12.0 and a player with a handicap index over 18.0 may play in the 12.1 to 18.0 category but must play off a handicap index of 18.0.
If a player has represented his club in one or more of the Surrey Fives matches during the current season, and his handicap index then drops below 5.0, he is still eligible to represent his club in the Surrey Fives for the remainder of the season, but he now must play off his new handicap index. However, when playing in his first Surrey Fives match of the season, a player may not have a handicap index below 5.0.
All players must be 18 years of age or over on the 1st of January for that year's knockout. Players may be changed from one round to the next, but if a Club inadvertently fields an ineligible player, his individual game shall be awarded to his opponent.
The Competition will be played as a knockout over 18 holes in match play format between the teams and will be played in order of exact handicap index. All matches must be played to a conclusion until the overall competition result is decided. The draw will be made in two sections (East & West), and the "˜Rule' Section under the draw will indicate which Team/Player shall play home or away for each round.
The WHS mandatory handicap allowance will be 100% (full difference). The away player in each game will receive one shot, to be added to their playing handicap after all calculations have been applied. If the away player is also a playing member of the home club, the extra shot will not apply.
