The Scratch League KO Rules

To be eligible to compete in any Surrey County Championship or to represent the County in a match, a player must:

i) Be of Amateur Status as defined by the R&A.
ii) Be an affiliated member of a Surrey Golf Club
iii) Have a valid handicap index in the Worldwide Handicap System

The knockouts will be open to all players who are an affiliated member of a Surrey Golf Club.

All matches should be played over a course set up as if for a qualifying competition, off the Club’s medal tees of the day.

All Surrey Knockouts will be played under the rules of the R&A and local rules as per the hosting Clubs, unless otherwise advised.

The competition shall be open to players who are affiliated members of a Surrey Golf Club.

Each Club will be represented by one team of five players and all matches are played off scratch.

Team members may be changed from one round to the next, but if a Club inadvertently fields an ineligible player, his individual game shall be awarded to his opponent.

There are no age limits for players in this competition. For those players under 18 years old, submission of the Player Profile & Parental Consent Form is required.

The competition shall be played as a knockout over 18 holes in match play format and will be played in order of exact handicap index. All matches must be played to a conclusion until the overall competition result is decided. The ‘View Rules’ Section under the draw will indicate which team shall play home or away for each round but this is detailed below.

A player may represent their Club in as many of the knockouts as required, but they may not represent more than one team in the same knockout (i.e. they cannot represent their Club's A&B teams in the same knockout, and they cannot play for more than one Club in the same knockout).

Home Clubs/players are reminded that it is the rules of the competition to allow the players of the away team to play a practice round at a rate equal to or less than the members’ introduced guest rate prior to the match date.

The home team is expected to offer at least three dates to their opponents to play the match, two which must be at the weekend and one mid-week. The dates must be offered in a timely manner, i.e. within seven days, assuming you know who your next round opponent is. If you are unable to agree on one of these dates and no other mutually acceptable date is agreed, then both teams will be disqualified. The Competition Committees decision is final.

WHILST IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HOME TEAM TO OFFER THREE DATES, IT IS DOWN TO BOTH TEAMS TO ENSURE THAT CONTACT IS MADE WITHIN SEVEN DAYS AND FOR THE MATCH TO BE ARRANGED AND PLAYED BEFORE THE COMPLETION DATE OF EACH ROUND. NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE GRANTED!

We appreciate it can sometimes be difficult, but please try not to leave your match until the last weekend in case our glorious weather results in a closure of the course, as mentioned above no extensions will be given.

All players must have a WHS handicap Index on the day of the event.

Any team knocked out after playing their first match will automatically be entered into the Scratch Plate. (This will be in round 2 for those that had a bye or round one for those that did not get a bye).
