The Christies Cup KO Rules

To be eligible to compete in any Surrey County Championship or to represent the County in a match, a player must:

i) Be of Amateur Status as defined by the R&A.
ii) Be an affiliated member of a Surrey Golf Club
iii) Have a valid handicap index in the Worldwide Handicap System
iv) Not have taken part in a Championship of another County affiliated to England Golf and not have been coached by or represented another County affiliated to England Golf during the same calendar year.

To be eligible for our championships and knockouts, a player must meet the age and handicap index requirements as detailed in Appendix A.

All entries shall be subject to approval by the Championship Committee who reserve the right to accept or refuse any entry. The Committee’s decision shall be final and the reason for the decision may be withheld.

To be considered valid, an entry form and the requisite entry fee must be with the Surrey Golf office at the closing date of each competition. For junior competitions, this includes submission of the Player Profile & Parental Consent Form.

Playing Handicap allowances are based on the WHS Playing Handicap Mandatory Allowances Table.

Any spectators MUST remain at least 25 metres from the players throughout the round. They may assist with ball searching but if they are witnessed interfering with play in any way or providing guidance to players they will be asked to leave the course.

The knockouts shall be open to all players who are affiliated members of a Surrey Golf Club.

The knockout shall be played over 18 holes as a stableford, played in 2-balls. The WHS Playing Handicap mandatory allowance is 95%. The away player in each game will be allowed one extra shot, to be taken after all handicap adjustments have been calculated. If the away player is also a playing member of the home club, this extra shot does not apply. The rest of their team are unaffected, and still receive their additional shot.

The total of the best 2 cards from each team will count. If there is a tie, then the 3rd score will also count. If there is still a tie after the 3rd score, then a sudden death stableford playoff between the first named player in each team will decide the winning team.

All matches should be played over a course set up as if for a qualifying competition, off the Club’s medal tees of the day.

All Surrey Knockouts shall be played under the rules of the R&A and local rules as per the hosting clubs, unless otherwise advised. All matches must be played to a conclusion until the overall competition result is decided.

A player may represent his club in as many of the knockouts as required, but he may not represent more than one team in the same knockout but they cannot play for more than one club in the same knockout.

Home clubs/players are reminded that the rules of the competition require that the players of the away team are allowed to play a practice round at a rate equal to or less than the members’ introduced guest rate, prior to the match date. For the club knockouts, it is a requirement that the away team are given courtesy of the course for the match to be played.

The home team is expected to offer at least three dates to their opponents to play the match, two of which must be at the weekend. The dates must be offered in a timely manner i.e. within seven days, assuming you know who your next round opponent is. If you are unable to agree on one of these dates and no other mutually acceptable date is agreed, then both teams will be disqualified. The Competition Committees decision is final.

WHILST IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HOME TEAM TO OFFER THREE DATES, IT IS DOWN TO BOTH TEAMS TO ENSURE THAT CONTACT IS MADE WITHIN SEVEN DAYS AND FOR THE MATCH TO BE ARRANGED AND PLAYED BEFORE THE COMPLETION DATE OF EACH ROUND. NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE GRANTED!

Assuming that the previous year’s finalists are in the draw, they will be seeded in each of the knockouts.
