Kelso Hamilton East KO 2025 Rules

To be eligible to compete in any Surrey County Golf event or to represent the County in a match, a player must:

i) Be of Amateur Status as defined by the R&A.
ii) Be an affiliated member of a Surrey County Golf Club
iii) Have a valid handicap index as defined by the Worldwide Handicap System (WHS)

All entries into Surrey County events shall be subject to approval by the Championship Committee, which reserve the right to refuse entry if, in their opinion a players Handicap Index is not reflective of their playing ability.
Each club shall be represented by one or two teams of two players with a handicap index between 13.0 and 18.0 inclusive. Once the draw has been made, if a player’s handicap index increases beyond 18.0, he must continue to play off 18.0. However, if a player’s handicap index decreases below 13.0, he must play off that new handicap index.

Both players must be 18 years of age or over on the 1st of January for that year’s knockout.
The Competition shall be knockout match play over 18 holes in a four-ball better ball format. The mandatory WHS handicap allowance will be 90%. Each away player will receive 1 additional shot added to their Course Handicap before the 90% is applied. Please Note: This is new to 2025 and only applies to the fourball better ball knockouts. If the away player is also a playing member of the home club, the extra shot will not apply.

The match must be played to a conclusion, and in the event of a halved match after eighteen holes, play must continue until one team wins a hole.

The draw will be made in two sections (East & West) and the ‘View Rules’ Section under the draw will indicate which team shall play home or away for each round.

Team members may NOT be substituted once the first round has been played.

All matches should be played over a course set up as if for a qualifying competition, off the Club’s medal tees of the day.

All Surrey Knockouts shall be played under the rules of the R&A and local rules as per the hosting clubs, unless otherwise advised. All matches must be played to a conclusion until the overall competition result is decided.

A player may represent his club in as many of the knockouts as required, but he may not represent more than one team in the same knockout i.e. a player cannot represent both an A & B team in the same knockout should his club enter more than one team, nor can he play for more than one club in the same knockout.

Home clubs/players are reminded that the rules of the competition request that the players of the away team, where possible, be allowed to play a practice round at a rate equal to or less than the members’ introduced guest rate, prior to the match date. For the club knockouts (namely the Scratch, John Ling, Surrey Fives, Kelso Hamilton), it is a requirement that the away team are given courtesy of the course for the match to be played. For the individual/pairs knockouts (namely the Thornhill, County Card Foursomes, and junior scratch & handicap), if the club will not allow courtesy of the course for the match, then the home players are required to cover the cost of any green fee.

The home team/player is expected to offer at least three dates to their opponents to play the match, two at weekends and one mid-week, with the exception of the Seniors, which must all be mid-week. These dates must be offered in a timely manner and must not be offered in the same week. If none of these dates are acceptable to the visitors and no other mutually acceptable date is agreed, then both teams will be disqualified.

The Championship Committee’s decision is final.

Assuming that the previous year’s finalists are in the draw, they will be seeded in each of the knockouts.

PLEASE NOTE: WHILST IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HOME TEAM TO OFFER AT LEAST THREE DATES FOR THE MATCH TO BE PLAYED. IT IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HOME TEAM TO MAKE FIRST CONTACT, ALTHOUGH IT IS USUALLY THE CASE. ALL TEAMS/PLAYERS WILL MUTUALLY AGREE TO PLAY THEIR MATCHES BEFORE THE COMPLETION DATE OF EACH ROUND AND IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ALL MATCHES ARE PLAYED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. IF FOR ANY REASON YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO MAKE CONTACT, THEN IN THE FIRST INSTANCE CALL THE CLUB AND ASK THEM TO REACH OUT ON YOUR BEHALF.

NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE GRANTED.
