On Sunday 13th October, the Surrey U15 team took to the road to play for the Triangular Shield against Sussex and Hampshire at Test Valley GC.
It was a cold but calm day, and despite it being the first time to the course for all the Surrey team, it was to be a successful day for the squad.
The team for the match was as follows:
Yuqian was out first and got some points on the board early, winning both matches 3&2. He was followed in quick succession by Hannarah Choi with a 3&2 win over Hampshire and a 2&1 victory over Sussex.
By the time Finlay Fergusson had also delivered maximum points with a 3&2 win over Hampshire and a 2up win over Sussex, it was clear Surrey were in a commanding position in both matches.
Unfortunately, Teddy Shaw succumbed to both his opponents, however Yakov Vorobyev delivered 2 resounding 6&5 victories - after birdies on holes 1, 2 and 3, he never looked back.
Will Mannering lost out to a strong Sussex opponent 3&2, but managed to deliver a half point from the Hampshire match, with a good par on 18.
Harry Weatherhead delivered a comfortable 3&2 win over Hampshire in match 7, and in a very high quality match with Sussex, both players shook hands on 18 and delivered a half point to their respective teams.
In the final match, the in-form Aaron Moody was too strong for his opponents on the day, winning 4&3 and 3&2 respectively.
This meant the final scores were:
Surrey 5.5 - 2.5 Sussex, Surrey 6.5 - 1.5 Hampshire. Please click here to view the full results.
Overall, this was an excellent day for Surrey, with the team showing a real readiness to step up to the U16 League in 2025.
