On Thursday 17th October, the finals of both the John Ling Trophy and the John Ling Salver took place at Banstead Downs Golf Club. The weather on the day was absolutely fantastic, with warm sunshine and hardly any wind, about as good as you can hope for in the middle of October! All the players were very glad that the event was not played the day before, when it was torrentially raining for the entire day!
The final of the John Ling Trophy was between Tyrrells Wood and Leatherhead, and the final of the Salver was between Farleigh and Roehampton.
The teams on the day were as follows:
Tyrrells Wood:
Leatherhead:
Farleigh:
Roehampton:
All the matches were played in great spirits which was really nice to see.
Once all individual match results had been confirmed, Leatherhead were victorious in winning the John Ling Trophy, with Roehampton taking the John Ling Salver.
After the golf, the players enjoyed sandwiches, chips and cake in the Clubhouse, followed by the presentation of the trophies.
Many thanks to our referees on the day, Sue Eggleton, David Hurst, and Jo Maddams, for giving up their time and for helping the day run so smoothly.
Lastly, a very big thank you to Banstead Downs Golf Club for hosting both finals, the course was in great condition, especially considering all the recent rain, and we really appreciate the club and the members for giving up their course and hosting the event for us.
