Surbiton win the Surrey Captains Junior League Cup
The 2024 Surrey Captains Junior League Cup took place at Croham Hurst Golf Club on Monday 28th October.
The Surrey Captains Junior League Cup is an inter-club event for Junior Club Teams who have won one of the following Surrey Leagues or Competitions during the season: Guildford & District League, U14 Rookie League, U18 Rookie League, Kingston & District League, the Keppler Trophy & the Fairways Trophy.
This was the first year that the event has been played since 2019, and it will become an annual competition again moving forward, as it was prior to 2019.
The event is still kindly sponsored by the Society of Surrey Golf Captains, who make a very generous annual donation to help provide funding both towards this event and also towards other junior events and training programmes that we run in Surrey. As a County, we are very appreciative of the Surrey Golf Captains for the generous donation that they make each year.
For the 2024 edition of the Surrey Captains Junior League Cup, the teams that qualified were the following:
Banstead Downs (Kingston & District League)
Hindhead (Guildford & District League)
Epsom (Keppler Trophy)
Horne Park (Fairways League)
Surbiton (U18 Rookie League)
Burhill (U14 Rookie League)
The competition is open to both junior boys and girls, and each team consists of six players.
The format is an 18-hole individual stableford, with boys off the yellow tees and girls off the red tees, and the team score is the best 5 of 6 stableford scores on the day. If there is a tie after summing up the best 5 of 6 scores, the remaining stableford score will then count towards the team score.
This year, the scores were very tight, with Burhill coming in 3rd place with a team score of 160 points, and Hindhead just pipping them into second place by 1 point, with a team score of 161 points.
However, this year's winners are Surbiton Golf Club, with a team score of 166 points, which included an individual score of 39 points which was returned from the last group of the day!
Many congratulations to Surbiton on winning this year's Surrey Captains Junior League Cup, to cap off what has been a very successful year for their Junior Section.
A massive thank you also to Croham Hurst Golf Club for hosting the event for us, we really appreciate the club members giving up their golf course for the morning, and also to all the staff for being so helpful and welcoming towards us.
