Surrey U18s returned to John O Gaunt GC which was the scene of our victory in the 2023 England Boys County Finals on Sunday 27th October to contest and hopefully defend our South East League title which we also won in 2023.
The original fixture was rained off in September but thankfully conditions were fair and the matches went ahead as planned.
The opponents were Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire in the triple match play format.
Despite missing a few players we fielded a very strong side led off by England squad player Oscar Lent who powered back from being behind early, including a hole in one being scored against him to win both of his matches.
Next up was Surrey County champion James Brash who also won both of his games with his usual silent assassin approach.
U18 Surrey Champion Josh Thompson followed suit with 2 wins against strong opposition matched by 2023 Surrey Boys champion Josh Davies.
So 4 wins against both counties on the board meant we only needed 1 more half point from each to defend the title.
Battling performances from James Marriot with 1 win and 1 half, Fred Gannon with a good win over Beds but losing to Herts best player, and the strong tail wagging with Kuan Zhou and Alex Wells gaining a further 2 wins each.
Final scores.
Surrey 8 Bedfordshire 0
Surrey 6 Hertfordshire 2
Surrey win the South East League for the 2nd year in succession.
