The Surrey A team took a trip to Hindhead on Sunday 3rd November as we near the end of our season and Hindhead warm up to a competitive ahead of a semi-final against Orsett in the EAGG.
Team matchups:
Surrey: Hindhead:
Ben Palmer (captain) David Corben
Richard Warburton Alex Macdonald
Leyton Hardwick David Primrose
Alastair Kinnard Dougie Hunter (captain)
John Ingham Pelle Fox
Rowan Noble William Cornwall
Keith Collins George Theodore
Mark Scott Jacob Aaholm
With the teams set for battle after coffee and bacon rolls the first pair were on the tee.
This would see a pair that has done plenty of battles in the past with Corben winning in close matches. This time round with (some not so good golf from both players) would see Ben win 2&1 after a birdie on 17.
2nd out wouldn't be as close with Richard winning 5&4 after some errant shots from Alex and a cold putter.
3rd would see some old friends do battle but this time at Hindhead and not the Surrey golfers home course. Another close battle with Leyton 2 up in the closing stretch only for primrose to hole some putts and the match finishing all Square.
4th would see the current Surrey county masters champion go up against Dougie, with lots of solid golf from both, Alastair was too hot for Dougie and won the match 6&5.
After 4 matches surrey would be 3.5 - 0.5 and in a good place.
5th out would be a battle of the young guns in John and Pelle. Pelle would end up winning the battle 4&2 with a very solid round.
6th was another battle of young blood in Rowan and William, the same score as match 5 would come in, with the Hindhead players first time playing in the senior side.
7th would see a Surrey war horse in Keith go against George. George running out to a 4&3 win after a hot putter sinking plenty of long and short testing putts.
Suddenly the match was tied with 1 game to come in.
8th would see some old foes go against each other in Mark and Jacob. Both teams were hoping for a win to take an advantage into the afternoon 9hole 4bbb. As both teams waited on the pair news came in the Jacob had won 2&1 meaning Hindhead would take a 4.5 - 3.5 lead at lunch. The Hindhead tail wagging.
