Mark Barron & Stuart La Frenais win the County Card Meeting at Walton Heath

Wednesday 27th November saw a full field of 36 pairs tee it up at Walton Heath Golf Club for the final County Card Meeting of the season. The format of the day was a fourball better ball stableford, with prizes for the top three pairs, as well as two nearest the pin prizes on the 7th & 11th holes.

Unfortunately, with torrential rain coming down overnight and into the morning, the start of the event had to be delayed by nearly 2 hours, and it was changed from a 2-tee start to a 4-tee to start, to make sure that all players finished their rounds before it got dark!

Once play got underway, although the rain had stopped, conditions were still not conducive to low scoring; the temperature was very cold, and there were strong winds blowing, meaning that the course was going to play very tough!

Despite this, the players were very excited to get out onto the golf course, as they always are at Walton Heath!

Although the conditions were difficult, there were still some very good scores returned, with two scores in the 40s, which was impressive.

Once all the scorecards had been returned and checked, the prize winners were confirmed as the following:

1st Place - Mark Barron (Tyrrells Wood) & Stuart La Frenais (Tyrrells Wood) – 44 points

2nd Place - Storm Chambers (Kingswood) & Mitchel Shankland (Kingswood) - 41 points

3rd Place - Roger Vinnicombe (Surbiton) & Toby Bain (Surbiton) - 39 points

Nearest the pin 7th hole - Mark Critchley (Effingham)

Nearest the pin 11th hole - Nash Majumder (David Lloyd Club Hampton)

As we always do at this event, we carried out a raffle, with all proceeds going to the Captain of Walton Heath's chosen charity, which this year was ‘Old Pheasantry’ in Tadworth. Walton Heath very kindly donated a 4-ball voucher to be used as the 1st prize in the raffle, as they generously do every year.

Our raffle raised £380 for the Captain's Charity, and the Walton Heath 4-ball voucher was in fact won by Mark Barron, to go with his first place prize in the event, capping off a brilliant day for him!

Congratulations to all the prize winners, and many thanks to all the players who have played in and supported our County Card Events throughout the year - these days would not be possible without you!

A special thank you goes to Brian Cox for all his help this year; Brian has done the registration and checked the scorecards at every single one of our County Card Events in 2024!

Lastly, a huge thank you to Walton Heath Golf Club for hosting the event. The staff were very incredibly helpful and welcoming towards us, and the golf course was in fantastic condition, especially given all the rain that had come down overnight! It is always a treat to visit Walton Heath, and we very much look forward to returning next year.

Winners Stuart La Frenais and Mark Barron
