West Hill County Card Event 2025
The first County Card Event of the year took place on Tuesday 8th April at West Hill Golf Club on what was a beautiful sunny day albeit a little frosty first thing. The Groom Cup was the silverware up for grabs with 71 players eager to get their hands on the trophy.
The format remained unchanged from the previous year. 18 holes stableford played from the yellow tees and 2 skills challenges of nearest the pin on holes 7 & 13 which as always provided some entertainment and yielded some birdie 2s for the lucky few.
Our winner, Dominic Smyth teed off at the intimidating 10th hole got off to a very slow start scoring no points on two of his first three holes before recovering well and finishing up with an impressive score of 39 points. This proved too many for the chasing pack with the nearest chaser amassing 36 points before a cluster of 35 pointers made it to the clubhouse.
There are few certainties in life but fast greens and good food at West Hill are two of them. It would be fair to say that almost every group came off the course somewhat shell shocked at the speed of the greens this early in the season. Fortunately for all there was plenty of comfort to be found in the dining room where the players were met with vast quantities of roast meats and homemade desserts.
We would like to say a big thank you to West Hill for hosting a fantastic event yet again and well done to all those who played in the event. We look forward to seeing you at the next County Card event at Hindhead on Thursday 15th May.
