Hindhead County Card Event

The second County Card Event of the year took place at Hindhead on Thursday 15th May.

After weeks of sunshine the golf course was in superb shape, the flowers in full bloom surrounding the 9th green and Hindhead’s famous flapjacks prepared in abundance. The only problem was the sun disappeared leaving most of the Players shivering in their shorts!

With many of the players returning having played last years event the scoring was good and the pack very bunched. Richard Gray of Surbiton carded 35 points to take 6th place and was only pipped to 5th by Rhys Burton (Malden) on count back.

Steady as ever, David Wharrier of Tandridge continued his good form from the last meeting at West Hill to score 36 points and finish 4th. This meant there was a three-way tie on 37 points.

Peter Burtonshaw (Dulwich & Sydenham Hill) found himself in 3rd place with Croham Hurst’s Richard Fawssett sneaking past him courtesy of a better inward half into second.

Our winner, again on countback, from Surrey Downs - Tom Williams got off to a interesting start, mishitting his first tee shot into the heather and his second before getting back into position and holing a 70yard pitch shot to get off to an entertaining par 4 start. Some solid golf from there saw Tom sign for 37 points and lift the Buchanan Trophy.

Nearest the pin winners were Steve Mitchell from Coombe Wood on the 6th and Mark Epps from Betchworth Park on the 15th.

We really appreciate everyone at Hindhead for hosting a wonderful event. We thoroughly look forward to coming back next year!
