The Surrey Foursomes Championship took place on Friday 13th June at a very sunny Addington Palace Golf Club. The format of the event has changed somewhat over the years and is now 36holes strokeplay played in the same day. The teams are made up of players with a handicap index of 9 or below who are members of a Surrey affiliated club.
Windlesham's newly crowned county champion Dan Magee and his partner Dan Faulkner led the way after round one with a very impressive level par score of 71. This would be good enough for the team of Dan's to take a 2 shot lead into the afternoon. The pair added a 73 to finish on a total of 144 and set the clubhouse lead.
Among the chasing pack were local favourites Simon Crockett and Brahma Patel who fired an opening 73 and would follow this up with a -1 round of 70 after lunch. This would only be good enough for third as Crockett Jnr (Harry) and partner Terry Nicholls blew the field away with a dazzling afternoon round of 66 to go along with a 73 in the morning leaving them with a total of 139 and a 5 stroke win.
It goes without saying that the golf course was absolutely magnificent and thoroughly enjoyed by all, particularly those visiting for the first time. Thank you to everyone at Addington Palace for their help in producing a great event. We look forward to next years event with the venue TBC but we have no doubt it will be just as popular.
