There are few nicer places in the world for golf than Hindhead and it was here that the Surrey first team played its final friendly before matches against other counties start.
The weather was beautiful and the competition tight as so many first team players are drawn from Hindhead. In this match they would play for their club. The top match match in the morning saw Hindhead's David Corben play against Addington Palace's Harry Crockett. The two recently won the Sunningdale Foursomes together but here they were on opposing sides and it was Hindhead who were victorious. For the Surrey team, Brahma Patel (Addington Palace) made his first team debut and he made a fast start, winning his foursomes with Ben Palmer 6 & 5. One other Surrey victory by Eoin Leonard and Will Dugdale saw the match tied at lunch after excellent play from the Hindhead team.
Honours were again even in the afternoon with 4 points apiece with the match settled by the last putt on the last green in the afternoon sunshine with all players watching on the veranda a well-earned drink in hand.
What a superb day - a beautiful course in its usual outstanding condition, tough competition and a great result of a tie 6-6. We enjoy and benefit from friendly matches like these in our preparation for the summer season and had a great day.
Well played everyone and many thanks to Hindhead for hosting the match.
