Surrey U12s vs Essex U12s

Our annual U12 match against Essex took place at Horne Park Golf Club on 8th August. The weather was perfect for golf and the quality of golf played by both teams was outstanding. The 23 players (12 Surrey & 11 Essex) enjoyed a luncheon of sandwiches, before heading out onto the course for the match, which took the 4BBB format with strokes given to even up the handicaps.

The first match out featured Myles Young and Ethan Kwan, who were all square against Essex after 9 holes and 2 up after 14 holes. The match was finished in true style by Ethan, whose 5 iron to the 172 yard Par 3 17th hole racked up his first hole-in-one and won the match 3&1.

Match 2 saw Carlos Selig and Leo Boniface take a 1 up lead through 9 holes and go on to win 4&2 on the 16th green.

Luke Stachel and Joshua Loganathan fought valiantly from 3 down after 9 holes but ultimately lost 2&1.

In match four, featuring Charlie Aldridge and Benas Navickas, the Surrey pair were all square after 9 holes and 2 up after 14 holes, going on to win 3&1 on the 17th hole.

Louie Goh and Joey Beale teamed up in match five and were 1 down after 9, 14 holes and 17. Down to the final hole the Surrey pair hit two great drives and terrific approach shots to the green, while the Essex duo sadly both went in the water, resulting in the match being halved.

Match six paired Jude Bayliss and Christian Meyer. After 9 holes this pair were 3 up and went onto to take a 5&4 win on the 14th green.

The final result was a 4.5 – 1.5 win for Surrey.

Well played to everyone who took part, both Surrey and Essex. And well done to Ethan Kwan for his post-match speech as the Surrey Match Captain. Many thanks to Horne Park Golf Club for loaning their course for the match and for looking after us so well on the day, it is truly appreciated. And many thanks to all the players chauffeurs for getting them to the golf course.

The Victorious Surrey U12 Team
