MUGS Match 2025

The annual U16s match between Surrey and BB&O is sponsored by the Mortimers Ubiquitous Golf Society (MUGS) and alternates each year between West Hill GC and Huntercombe.

The fixture has been going for 28 years now and the scores at the start of  Tuesday morning were Surrey 14 - BB&O 13. With this in mind the teams took to the course for the morning foursomes and the BB&O team the task was clear. Get off to a hot start and level the overall scores.

They did just that. Taking the morning session 4.5 to 0.5.

The Surrey team, shellshocked by what had just happened needed to regroup over lunch and come out firing if they stood any chance of holding onto the trophy. After a rousing team talk from Manager Graeme Fergusson the lads got to work.

Despite strong resistance, Surrey took the first 4 games in the afternoon singles.

Harry Weatherhead won 2&1

Caelan Dhami won 2&1

Sean Collins won 2&1

Finlay Fergusson won 2&1

This levelled the scores and gave some belief to the team who began to believe there could be something similar to the Miracle at Medinah playing out.

This would be short lived sadly as Kodi Dean and Christos Pillay succumbed to 4&3 and 1 down defeats respectively.

The youngest member of the team Joshua Jackson produced a 2&1 win in his match but sadly it was too late as the final 3 matches went the way of BB&O.

Will Mannering lost 4&2

Luke Jackson lost 3&2

Leo Morphitis lost 3&2

The final score was 9.5 to 4.5. A valliant effort by Surrey but BB&O were too strong on the day.

As always, this was a fantastic day played in great spirit. Thank you to our friends at West Hill, BB&O and the MUGS. We look forward to next year!
