Tandridge County Card Event

The latest County Card Meeting took place took place at Tandridge Golf Club on Thursday 4th September.

After some torrential showers first thing play was delayed by 20minutes to allow the greens to dry out which with some help from the weather Gods and greenkeeping team worked a treat. The course was back to looking its best with the recent fairway and bunker work really showing it's value.

The hardy soles who braved the elements appeared to enjoy the challenge and praised the golf course but everyone knew the best was yet to come... The famous Tandridge carvery followed by the renowned selection of desserts including the "Tandridge Pudding" for which the recipe is a closely guarded secret. This alone was worth the trip.

However, there was the small matter of The Chairman's Trophy up for grabs which was not to be forgotten.

The nearest to the pins on the 4th and 15th hole were won by Ken Drew of Tyrrells Wood and Michael Hagan of Dulwich & Sydenham Hill respectively.

In 4th place was Tom Davey (Pyrford Lakes) with 33 points.

Narrowly pipping Tom on countback for 3rd was local David Philips (Tandridge) courtesy of a better inward half. This led for almost an hour.

And then, Richard Gray from Surbiton handed in 34points which as the players sat down to their lunch looked set to win.

Until Simon Parker (Coombe Wood) arrived home with 41 points to blow the field away and take a comprehensive win!

Well done to Simon for a fantastic round of golf, especially in those conditions. Absolutely superb.

On behalf of all those who attended, thank you to Tandridge Golf Club for hosting the event. The golf course was a real treat as always and the post round feast was truly special. We appreciate the hospitality and thoroughly look forward to returning next year!

Winner Simon Parker
