Surrey U16s claim the SEG League Final!
Sunday 28th September was a day for those in red on both sides of the Atlantic. Just hours before the US Ryder Cup Team mounted their charge against the Europeans the Surrey U16 Team took on Hertfordshire and BB&O in the SEG League Final at Haywards Heath Golf Club in Sussex.
After some strong prep work with coach Greg Brodie and Team Manager Graeme Fergusson the team were led out by Zahn Bopiah of Sunningdale who produced a 3&1 win over Herts and half match against BB&0.
Kodi Dean (Burhill) got off to a hot start securing a 7&6 win over BB&O and 4&3 over Herts.
Teddy Shaw (Walton Heath) was next to deliver points by the tune of 5&4 (BB&O) and 4&3 (Herts).
Finlay Fergusson (Burhill) followed suit with a pair of 3&2 victories leaving the team in a very strong position needing just another couple of points.
Sean Collins (St George's Hill) produced a 5&4 win against Herts and a very tense half match against BB&O which was enough to take the team over the line and be crowned champions!
Nevertheless, the were still some individual records to be preserve which Caelan Dhami (Walton Heath) was able to do courtesy of a pair of 2&1 wins.
Harry Weatherhead (Burhill) was able to add one point vs Hertfordhire courtesy of a 2&1 win but was sadly defeated by a very fine display from BB&O's Seb Duffield who closed the match out with an eagle 3.
Aaron Moody (Burhill) struggled in his matches without his best golf to lose both on the 16th 3&2.
The final standings were Surrey 12 BB&O 6.55 & Hertfordshire 5.5.
Well done to all of the boys who played throughout the year and a massive thank you to Graeme, Greg and Lee for all their hard work. Bring on the U18s next year!
