Burhill Juniors Shine at the London Amateur Foursomes
Aaron Moody and Harry Weatherhead reached the final of one of London’s toughest amateur tournaments last week. The London Amateur Foursomes once again delivered three days of exceptional golf, fierce competition, and memorable performances.
Hosted this year by the prestigious Walton Heath Golf Club, the event brought together 64 teams from clubs within a 40-mile radius of Charing Cross, all vying for the coveted scratch foursomes title.
Rounds 1 and 2 were played across both of Walton Heath’s world-class layouts, before the later stages moved exclusively to the Old Course, measuring a formidable 6,722 yards.
Among a strong field packed with Surrey’s best clubs, it was Burhill’s dynamic 16-year-old duo, Aaron Moody and Harry Weatherhead, who stole the spotlight—defying the odds to reach the final in sensational style.
A Remarkable Run
Although the London Amateur Foursomes is traditionally a men’s competition, Aaron and Harry showed skill, composure, and maturity well beyond their years. Their path to the final featured impressive victories over:
• Reigate Heath – 5&3
• West Surrey – 2&1
• Windlesham – 5&4
• Royal Wimbledon – 1 up
• Orsett – 2&1
Their most thrilling performance came in Round 2 against West Surrey on the New Course. Two down through ten holes, the Burhill pair launched a stunning comeback—firing six birdies between the 11th and 17th holes to clinch victory in unforgettable fashion.
The final was a closely contested affair against Rochester & Cobham, with little to separate the two sides. Aaron and Harry fought courageously throughout, staying within touching distance for most of the match and only conceding on the 17th green after narrowly missing a birdie putt that could have extended play.
Despite a narrow 2&1 defeat, their performance earned widespread admiration and demonstrated the exceptional depth of young talent emerging from both Burhill Golf Club and Surrey County.
The boys won’t have long to rest on their success—they’re set to compete next weekend in the Surrey Junior Masters at Farnham, rounding off what has been a remarkable season for the pair.
Congratulations, Aaron and Harry!
