The annual standing match between Reigate Heath, Walton Heath, and the Surrey Golf committees took place at Reigate Heath on Saturday, 18th October.
This fixture dates back to 1984/1985, when the committees of Surrey and Reigate Heath first introduced the annual match. Following Surrey Golf’s centenary year in 2023, an invitation was extended to include Walton Heath, creating the current three-way contest.
Historically, in October 1923, Sir Hedley Le Bas of Reigate Heath and E. W. E. Holderness of Walton Heath convened a meeting of Surrey golf representatives to propose the formation of a Surrey County Union. The committee was tasked with drafting rules for a union whose objectives were:
The match itself is played in foursomes, with players now going out in groups of six. As always, the games were contested in an excellent spirit.
In celebration of the Surrey Men’s Centenary, the Surrey Women kindly donated a trophy for the day. The teams and order of play were as follows:
